Bruce Springsteen has always stood as a towering figure of American music: a blue-collar poet whose stories of hope, heartbreak, and the road have shaped generations. His artistry has long been defined by a raw honesty, and in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, filmmaker Scott Cooper brings audiences inside one of the most pivotal creative moments of Springsteen’s life: the birth of his stark and haunting 1982 masterpiece, Nebraska. What results is one of 2025’s most surprising, soulful, and emotionally open cinematic experiences.

Rather than mimic the typical A-to-B biopic formula, Cooper opts for a far more intimate and compelling approach. He narrows the focus to a single, defining chapter: Springsteen’s retreat in 1981 to Freehold, New Jersey, where he finds himself caught in a spiral of depression, isolation, and creative unrest. With fame rising around him, Springsteen instead pulls back, rents a modest house, and begins to process the storms inside him. There, armed only with a four-track recorder and his own relentless thoughts, he creates Nebraska, an album that would become a defining artistic statement and a radical departure from the arena-rock path the industry expected him to follow.

This sharper, more contained approach makes for a far more powerful film. Rather than racing through decades of history, Deliver Me From Nowhere becomes a character study, an exploration of creative compulsion, trauma, and the healing power of music. The idea that “the album makes the man” sits at the heart of Cooper’s narrative, and it’s what elevates the film above standard music-biopic fare.

Jeremy Allen White steps into Springsteen’s boots with startling conviction. Fresh off the intensity of The Bear, White transforms completely, shedding every trace of Carmy Berzatto and absorbing Springsteen’s energy, posture, and guarded vulnerability. The performance is magnetic. Clad in leather jackets and worn denim, with wild, tossed-back hair and a simmering internal tension, White channels the grounded New Jersey cool that has always defined The Boss. There are moments where he seems to vanish entirely into the role; posture, voice, presence and all, and the result is one of the actor’s most impressive turns to date.

Cooper pairs White’s performance with moody Americana visuals, crafting a film soaked in cool tones, vintage muscle cars, stripped-back rooms, and the hum of an amp waiting for the first chord. Yet beneath the style lies a deep emotional charge. Flashbacks to Springsteen’s childhood, marked by a volatile and emotionally absent father, offer painful insight into the wounds that shaped both the man and the music. Cooper handles these moments with restraint and honesty, letting their emotional weight sit without exploitation.

At its core, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is about the transformative power of creativity. It’s a story of how music becomes a lifeline, how expression becomes survival, and how even in the loneliest rooms, hope can make itself known. Jeremy Allen White delivers a performance of rare sincerity, and Cooper crafts one of his most heartfelt films yet. Beautiful, raw, and resonant, this is a cinematic journey that lingers.

The Telluride Film Festival had some absolute bangers this year, and one film that utterly owned the festival was Scott Cooper’s (Hostiles, Into the Furnace) Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, and it struck a major chord with attendees and promises to be one of the most deeply affecting cinematic experiences of the year, courtesy of a boldly brave performance by Jeremy Allen White.

Watch the all-new trailer for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 “Nebraska” album. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom, the album marked a pivotal time in his life and is considered one of his most enduring works — a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.

Following on from a brilliant first look trailer, audiences and long-time Bruce Springsteen fans have been delivered something special with this new trailer for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, and Jeremy Allen White’s stirring and stark performance as Springsteen is sure to affect audiences when they see the film. There’s an isolation, an edge, a burning aura about his presnece in this new footage, and we get to see Springsteen, a rock god stripped back and coming to terms with who he is on the inside, and exposing his raw, broken to the world through the production of the famed Nebraska album, and White takes us this with pure soul.

“‘Nebraska’ is where Bruce chose truth over expectation—a choice that still reverberates through everything he’s written since. At that crossroads, he could have chased the bright lights and the roar of arenas, but instead, he turned inward, armed only with silence, a four-track recorder, and the courage to confront himself. For him to trust me with telling that story—the most vulnerable chapter of his life—is the greatest honour I’ve ever had as a filmmaker,” said Scott Cooper.

“This film takes a couple years out of my life and looks at them very closely, a time when I made ‘Nebraska’ and went through some personal difficulties,” says Bruce Springsteen. “I’m so appreciative of Jeremy Allen White and the entire cast for their wonderful and moving performances, and Scott Cooper, one of the most generous collaborators I’ve ever worked with.”

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is shaping up to be a rousing and intense watch of passion and intensity, and showcases an incredible performance from Jeremy Allen White. Audiences will feel the soul of rock n’roll music when it arrives in cinemas on October 23.

Acting powerhouse Jeremy Allen White is a performer who totally commits to his performances and he’s bringing all out the stops as he steps into the shoes of The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, for a emotionally raw depiction of the famed singer-songwriter’s greatest ever comeback with his lauded 1982 ‘Nebraska’ album in director Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. And this is shaping up to be a deeply raw and intense cinematic experience for moviegoers.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 “Nebraska” album when he was a young musician on the cusp of global superstardom, struggling to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom, the album marked a pivotal time in his life and is considered one of his most enduring works—a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.

Director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Hostiles) is bringing out all the stops as he steps into the mind of a living, breathing American legend with this story of Bruce Springsteen’s creative exodus and rediscovery of his musical gift as he crafted the famed ‘Nebraska’ album, a raw, haunted acoustic record that marked a pivotal time in his life and is considered one of his most enduring works.

Cooper, who wrote the script for the screen based on the book “Deliver Me from Nowhere” by Warren Zanes, said, “Making ‘Springsteen’ was deeply moving as it allowed me to step inside the soul of an artist I’ve long admired – and to witness, up close, the vulnerability and strength behind his music. The experience felt like a journey through memory, myth, and truth. And more than anything, it was a privilege to translate that raw emotional honesty to the screen, and in doing so, it changed me. I cannot thank Bruce and Jon Landau enough for allowing me to tell their story.”

This trailer is packed with a visceral, and deeply emotional energy, and Allen White teases a performance that will take him from A to Z as Springsteen as he has to comes to terms with his dysfunctional and emotionally-neglectful past as he discovers himself again, and in the process an all-new side to his talents and artistry as a musician. White brings a quite-reserve here as Springsteen, and as he’s known to do he fully invests in his dramaric delivery, which will take audiences from the a raging-inner conflcit to flat out rock star riot as he takes to the stage.

Deliver Me From Nowhere is shaping up to be a very special watch, and along woith White also features a stacked cast including the likes of Jeremy Strong as Jon Landau; Springsteen’s manager and record producer, Paul Walter Hauser as Mike Batlan; Springsteen’s recording engineer during the Nebraska sessions, Odessa Young as Faye; Bruce’s love interest, Marc Maron as Chuck Plotkin; Springsteen’s producer and mixing engineer and David Krumholtz as Al Teller; the record executive at Columbia Records. All of these performers are bringing their A-game for this picture, and it will be a true rock n’ roll watch.
