The mere promise of Tom Hiddleston’s return as the cool, haunted espionage operative Jonathan Pine was enough to set pulses racing. Ever since it was announced that The Night Manager would return for a second season, anticipation has simmered at a near-boiling point. Now, nearly a decade after its original debut, John le Carré’s sleek, morally murky spy thriller storms back onto screens via Prime Video, and it does so with sharpened teeth, deeper shadows, and a far more dangerous world waiting on the other side.

Season Two plunges Pine into an all-new abyss of secrecy and betrayal, one shaped by the lingering legacy of arms dealer Richard Roper and the global predators eager to exploit the chaos he left behind. The result is a gripping, seductive, and relentlessly tense continuation that proves The Night Manager hasn’t just returned — it’s evolved.

Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin – a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London – his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva).

A Legacy of Espionage Excellence

When The Night Manager first arrived in 2016, it was an instant standout. A bold reimagining of le Carré’s novel, the series wrapped its espionage thrills around contemporary political anxieties, from the fallout of the Arab Spring to the corrosive influence of unchecked power and wealth. It delivered a razor-tight game of cat and mouse between Pine and Hugh Laurie’s chillingly charismatic Richard Roper, sweeping audiences along with its jet-setting glamour, moral ambiguity, and slow-burning menace.

Critically acclaimed and decorated with awards, the series became a modern benchmark for prestige spy television. Now, with Season Two, the story descends even further into the tiger pit, confronting a new breed of monsters in a world that has grown colder, greedier, and infinitely more dangerous.

A Man Still Haunted

Set ten years after the events of the first season, Jonathan Pine now lives under the alias Alex Goodwin. Still working for MI6, he operates as the manager of a covert surveillance unit ominously nicknamed The Night Owls. Pine may have survived Roper, but the scars of that mission linger. He’s a man shaped, and hollowed, by his past.
When Pine stumbles upon an anomaly that should not exist, he’s dragged back into the orbit of international arms trafficking, forced once more to reckon with the consequences of Roper’s empire and those eager to rebuild it.

Director Georgi Banks-Davies wastes no time tightening the screws, spinning a tale dense with double-crosses, shadow deals, and shifting loyalties. The pacing snaps into place early, building a crackling sense of urgency that carries the season forward at speed.

Hiddleston in His Element

Tom Hiddleston’s return as Jonathan Pine is nothing short of electrifying. He slips back into the role with effortless authority, revealing a darker, more dangerous evolution of the character. When we first meet Pine, he’s emotionally depleted — a shell of the man he once was. But when the mission calls, a switch flips.

Hiddleston leans into Pine’s lethal elegance, delivering a performance brimming with restraint and controlled intensity. Dressed in impeccably tailored three-piece suits and armed with razor-sharp instincts, Pine dives headfirst into another deadly game of manipulation. The psychological fallout of Season One fuels his motivations here, lending the narrative added emotional weight and urgency. This is Pine reborn — colder, smarter, and more willing to cross lines.

A New Devil Enters the Game

Season Two’s primary antagonist arrives in the form of Teddy Dos Santos, a Colombian businessman played with unsettling charm by Diego Calva. Teddy is a worthy successor to Richard Roper, a man who cloaks ruthless ambition behind polished civility. Operating within Central America, Teddy’s arms-smuggling empire threatens regional stability, and his unpredictable nature makes him a terrifying adversary.

Calva imbues Teddy with a feline grace and simmering menace. There’s an alluring unpredictability to him; every glance feels calculated, every smile a potential threat. He’s not just a villain — he’s a destabilising force, and his presence injects the season with fresh danger and intrigue.

Desire, Danger, and Divided Loyalties

Adding another volatile element to the mix is Camila Morrone as Roxana Bolaños, a Colombian businesswoman who forges a reluctant alliance with Pine. Morrone brings sex appeal, intelligence, and contradiction to the role, crafting a character layered with secrets and shifting motives.

Roxana is far more than a classic femme fatale. She’s calculating, emotionally complex, and constantly evolving, her loyalties changing as circumstances shift. Positioned between Pine and Teddy, she becomes a key wildcard — one whose presence amplifies the tension and unpredictability of the narrative. Morrone’s performance crackles with magnetism, making Roxana one of the season’s most compelling figures.

Heat, Style, and Razor-Edge Tension

The Night Manager remains one of the slickest productions on television, and its Central American setting only heightens the intensity. The oppressive heat, lush landscapes, and sun-soaked danger infuse the series with palpable energy. From Pine’s immaculate wardrobe to the sweat-drenched locations, Season Two amplifies both the glamour and the peril.

Hiddleston, Calva, and Morrone form a combustible trio, their intersecting agendas driving the story forward with explosive force. The heat of Colombia mirrors the emotional and moral pressure bearing down on these characters, pushing them toward increasingly dangerous decisions.

The Final Verdict

Season Two of The Night Manager is a high-stakes television event: sharp, seductive, and relentlessly gripping. Georgi Banks-Davies keeps the tension dialled high from the outset, layering twists, secrets, and revelations that strike with venomous precision. The atmosphere of cool sophistication, moral ambiguity, and ever-present danger is pure spy-thriller bliss.

Led by a superb Tom Hiddleston, The Night Manager returns as one of the year’s most exciting, provocative, and addictive series. This is espionage television firing on all cylinders, and you’ll be holding on for dear life as it drags you deep into its dark, dangerous world.

The Night Manager is currently streaming on Prime Video.

With the announcement that Tom Hiddleston is set to return to the world of high stakes espionage withe second season of The Night Manager, I thought it prudent to return to Season One of this high-stakes, deftly plotted and intrigued spy thriller, and as re-watch it doesn’t disappoint with its delivery of high-stakes espionage, suave charm, and jet-setting intrigue wrapped in a dangerously seductive package, then The Night Manager is exactly the kind of show that demands your attention.

The night manager of a Cairo hotel is recruited to infiltrate an arms dealer’s inner circle.

Based on the John le Carré novel of the same name, this sleek six-part limited series delivers all the elegance and adrenaline of a classic spy thriller, reimagined for a modern audience, and it absolutely smoulders. With Tom Hiddleston stepping into the lead as the dashing yet emotionally wounded Jonathan Pine, The Night Manager is a slow-burning cocktail of international danger, covert operations, and razor-sharp seduction. This isn’t just a spy story; it’s a battle of wills and identities, played out across some of the world’s most breathtaking backdrops, from Cairo’s decadent nightlife to the icy sophistication of the Swiss Alps and the sun-soaked coastlines of Mallorca.

Let’s not beat around the bush, The Night Manager is Tom Hiddleston’s audition reel for James Bond, and what an audition it is. As Pine, Hiddleston oozes charisma, confidence, and a quiet intensity that’s both magnetic and menacing. A former British soldier turned luxury hotel manager, Pine is drawn into the dangerous world of illegal arms dealing when he’s recruited by the British intelligence agency to infiltrate the inner circle of billionaire arms dealer Richard Roper.

Pine is a fascinating character: equal parts refined and ruthless. Hiddleston handles the duality with masterful control, seamlessly switching between gentlemanly elegance and cold-eyed spy work. Whether he’s slipping into a tuxedo for a lavish dinner or landing a brutal punch in a Moroccan alleyway, he keeps you utterly riveted.

Opposite Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie turns in a career-defining performance as Richard Roper, a villain who’s all smiles, charm, and tailored suits… but underneath lies a predator with a taste for chaos. Laurie crafts Roper with exquisite detail, portraying him as the kind of man you can’t help but like, even when he’s ordering a massacre or manipulating global markets. It’s a chilling, intelligent performance that brings a grounded menace to the series.

The cat-and-mouse game between Pine and Roper is the real engine of The Night Manager, and every scene they share crackles with tension. There’s a sense that either man could devour the other at any moment, and that ambiguity keeps things deliciously unpredictable.

The Night Manager is visual luxury at its finest. Director Susanne Bier; who won an Emmy for her work on the series, crafts a sleek, cinematic world where every detail counts. From bespoke tailoring and crystal-clear martinis to million-dollar villas and covert helicopters, there’s an opulence to the show that feels positively intoxicating.

But it’s not just eye candy. The series has substance beneath the style, diving into morally murky waters and examining the price of complicity and corruption. Every character is playing a game within a game, and as Pine delves deeper into Roper’s world, the question of how far he’s willing to go becomes ever more pressing.

Olivia Colman brings a gritty counterbalance to all the elegance as intelligence officer Angela Burr, whose crusade against Roper is deeply personal. Her determination and sharp wit give the show a strong emotional backbone, and her chemistry with Hiddleston adds a layer of urgency to the mission.

There’s a reason The Night Manager made waves when it first dropped; it’s the perfect blend of old-school espionage and modern prestige television. With only six episodes, it never overstays its welcome. Instead, it builds its plot with precision, escalating the stakes until the final, pulse-pounding confrontation that’s as satisfying as it is stylish.

It’s the kind of series that gets under your skin. You’re drawn in by the glamour, the seduction, and the razor-sharp tension—but you stay for the powerhouse performances and the delicious slow-burn storytelling.

The Night Manager is a prestige spy drama done right. With Tom Hiddleston in full leading-man mode, a chilling turn from Hugh Laurie, and a globe-trotting plot full of secrets, seduction, and sabotage, this series is a masterclass in modern espionage storytelling. Think Bond meets Bourne with a dash of Succession, and the result is intoxicating.

If you’re craving something stylish, cerebral, and suspenseful, The Night Manager is the high-class spy fix you’ve been waiting for. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself pouring a martini, checking your passport, and dreaming of danger in the Mediterranean.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin – a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London – his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva).

On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army. As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late.

The acclaimed first season of The Night Manager was nominated for more than 30 awards and won multiple Emmy, Golden Globes and BAFTA awards – including Best Actor for Tom Hiddleston (Loki, The Life of Chuck), who reprises his role as former British intelligence operative, Jonathan Pine.

Picking up eight years after the original series, Season Two of The Night Manager will explopre new territory within the evolving landscape of John le Carré and his uniquely sophisticated, yet morally ambiguous world view of intelligence agencies and power.

Made by the award-winning London and LA-based independent studio The Ink Factory (The Pigeon Tunnel, The Little Drummer Girl) in association with Character 7, Demarest Films and 127 Wall, and in co-production with Spanish collaborator Nostromo Pictures, The Night Manager Season Two is created and executive produced by David Farr, based on the characters created by John le Carré. Directed in full by BAFTA winner Georgi Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie, Paper Girls), the upcoming season expands the story beyond the source material of the titular novel for the first time.

All six-episodes of this bold and dramatic new chapter of The Night Manager will arrive on Prime Video in 2026.

What does a life truly mean? What memories do we leave behind? And in the face of inevitable endings, what joys do we take with us? These are the haunting and heart-swelling questions that bubble at the core of The Life of Chuck, the breathtaking new adaptation of Stephen King’s novella that delivers a luminous, deeply emotional cinematic experience that will move you to tears, and then lift you with a profound sense of wonder.

From childhood to adulthood, Charles “Chuck” Krantz (Tom Hiddleston) experiences the wonder of love, the heartbreak of loss, and the multitudes contained in all of us.

Directed with immense grace and tenderness by Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House maestro Mike Flanagan, The Life of Chuck may surprise fans expecting something darker from King’s pages. This is no horror flick. Instead, it’s a delicate, multifaceted mosaic, an existential dramedy told in reverse, that asks audiences to reckon with mortality not with fear, but with a celebration of memory, music, and meaning.

At the centre of it all is a quietly devastating, career-defining performance from Tom Hiddleston as Charles “Chuck” Krantz. We first meet Hiddleston as Chuck in the most odd, and peculiar of ways due to the film’s unique structure and framing, and it is not until the second act where he fully comes into form. But through three distinct and richly layered acts, Flanagan peels back time to reveal the fragments of Chuck’s life, from the pondering of middle-aged pondering to youthful exuberance to the bright-eyed innocence of childhood, and in doing so, presents a portrait of a man that is as complex as it is achingly relatable.

Hiddleston, long known for his theatrical gravitas and charisma, disappears into the role of Chuck with subtle elegance. There’s a rawness to his portrayal, especially in the film’s closing (or rather, opening) scenes, that speaks to every unsaid word, every lost opportunity, and every moment of joy quietly savoured. It’s the kind of performance that lingers with you long after the credits roll.

The culminative effect of Hiddleston’s presence is sparked in a wicked dance act, which is without a doubt the highlight of the film, and trust us when we say that Tom does indeed have the moves. As a performer, time and time again, Hiddleston has proven himself to be an adept artist, and as Chuck, he delivers his most human and complete performance to date. In Hiddleston, we see an effortless and radiant joy that comes to be shown on screen, and the highlight of the film is most definitely the groovy dance number where he absolutely cuts loose, and it’s utterly triumphant to behold.

But the magic of The Life of Chuck doesn’t end with Hiddleston. Jacob Tremblay delivers another knockout performance as teenage Chuck, bringing wide-eyed wonder and vulnerability to the role, and reminding us that every adult we pass once carried dreams too large for the sky. His segment of the film is one of its most touching, capturing the fragility of youth and the strange, magical melancholy of growing up. Watch for a mesmerising dance sequence under a dome of stars, it’s pure movie magic.

Then there’s Mark Hamill, stealing scenes and hearts as Albie Krantz, Chuck’s grandfather and spiritual anchor. With a twinkle in his eye and a deep, paternal warmth, Hamill is the soul of the film. As Chuck’s “zayde,” Albie is equal parts sage and soft place to land — a reminder that the most important lessons we ever learn come not from textbooks, but from the ones who love us the most.

Stylistically, The Life of Chuck is as audacious as it is intimate. Told in three chapters, each moving further back in time, Flanagan crafts a puzzle-box narrative that unfolds with poetic elegance. Some moments feel like a surreal daydream, others like a gut-punch of emotional truth. Cinematographer Eben Bolter bathes the screen in warm, honeyed tones, lending a dreamlike quality to even the most grounded scenes. And the score by The Newton Brothers? Soulful, melancholic, and utterly perfect.

But what truly elevates The Life of Chuck is its unwavering belief in the beauty of simply being alive. It’s not a film that shouts, it whispers. It invites you to slow down, to pay attention, to look back and ahead all at once. It’s a film about goodbyes, yes, but more than that, it’s a film about living a life that is authentically your own. It urges us to embrace the multitudes that make up our inner world, to forgive ourselves, to laugh more, and to love boldly. In a world obsessed with noise and spectacle, The Life of Chuck dares to be quiet. And in doing so, it sings.

Prepare yourself: this is a film that will make you cry, smile through tears, and maybe, just maybe, call someone you haven’t spoken to in too long. For those willing to surrender to its rhythm, The Life of Chuck is not just a film — it’s a gentle reminder of the miracle of being here at all. Don’t miss it.

It all comes down to this, the final episode of Loki, and everything we thought we knew about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to change…..forever.

At the end of time, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) discover a lost citadel and the man who has been pulling the strings behind the Time Variance Authority and all of time itself. And he has an offer for them. An offer that will change everything about the Marvel Cinematic Universe…forever.

Week by week and episode by episode the epicness of Loki has grown and changed before our eyes. It was a series that started weird and only got stranger and opened our eyes to a previously unseen side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with a power that none of us could comprehend. We saw a god change and meet many new parts of himself, and now in ‘For All Time. Always’, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), along with his counterpart and the variant Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) have reached the end of time, and this final episode of Loki Season One makes for one very epic conclusion.

From the start, director Kate Herron keeps audiences guessing and as she reveals her narrative we see the entire MCU change before us. In Loki, we learnt that time was the greatest power in the entire universe and that no one, regardless of their own personal power, could escape its grasp. And all of that is brought to the screen in this final episode. And Herron completely changes up the narrative before our eyes. Not only does she play Loki and Sylvie off of one another, but she introduces audiences to a major new character who is set to shape this new chapter of the MCU.

That character is He Who Remains, who is played to a masterful level by Jonathan Majors, and this character of He Who Remains also happens to be a variant of the galactic conqueror Kang. And it’s a reveal that has huge significance for the MCU going forward. As He Who Remains, aka a Kang variant, Majors is off the chain and this kooky, benevolent Einstein-like character who reveals himself from behind the curtain and confirms that it was he who has been shaping the events of all time. In his appearance Majors sets the stage for things to come and gives us an insight into the motivations of Kang and he’s damn impressive in the role. It’s an epic MCU debut and Majors is shaping up to be an incredibly important presence within the forthcoming next chapter of the MCU.

The epicentre of ‘For All Time. Always’ centres on a series of increasingly complex and shocking monologues delivered by Majors’ He Who Remains, and this ‘time keeper’ lays it out, plain and simple, for Loki and Sylvie. Placing emphasis on the need for order to control an even greater chaos, and the devils that it will bring forth, Majors keeps audiences on edge the whole way through and you’ll be wanting to watch and decipher this series of dialogues multiple times. Conversing on order, free will, villainy and things that have been and are still to come, Majors sets the stage for an ultimate danger that will make its presence very known in the MCU.

From beginning to end you’re completely hooked by every single moment of ‘For All Time. Always’, and I can say that this ending is the single most shocking sci-fi ending I can think of since the original 1968 Plant of the Apes. Hiddleston’s reaction to the ending of this episode is utterly shocking and is the perfect end-note for an incredibly complex and completely different Marvel experience for fans. And it’s about to get very interesting going forward from here.

‘For All Time. Always’ is an excellent piece of television and the perfect final chapter to another incredible piece of work from Marvel Studios. Right from the start, this series has completely changed up our expectations of what a Marvel television series is and Herron and her team have brought incredible energy and creativity to this series the whole way through. And this is ultimately the first chapter in a long saga of which I am very excited to see the next instalment of.

With startling revelations and one hell of an ending Loki ‘For All Time. Always’ was utterly amazing, and with the conclusion of this series….so begins the multiverse.

Get ready for the strange because Loki turns the page in Episode 5 ‘Journey into Mystery’ and this new episode takes us to a place of surrealness and absurdity that we’ve never ever ventured before within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And the results are absolutely mind-warping to behold as Loki contemplates what awaits at the edge of time.

Having been pruned by Judge Renslayer and seemingly killed, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) instead wakes up in The Void. A spectral world that exists off of the Sacred Timeline and right at the edge of time. Here Loki also comes into contact with other variants of himself and soon finds himself on a do or die mission to escape The Void and find the very thing that does exist at the very end of time itself.

Brace yourself for the weird because Episode 5 of Loki ‘Journey into Mystery’ takes us to a place that none us ever expected we’d travel to and the results are completely out of this world. Seemingly believing himself to be dead, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) instead wakes up and is greeted by further variants of himself who collectively include Kid Loki (Jack Veal), Classic Loki (Richard E. Grant), Boastful Loki (DeObia Oparei) and Alligator Loki (yes you are reading that right), and who taking pity on the arrival of a new Loki shelter him from both the presence of the dangerous and monstrous Alioth, but also the presence of a Loki gang, who are led by the sadistic President Loki (Hiddleston), who is content on being King of the Void.

It’s a lot to take in, and the absurdity, inventiveness and creativeness on behalf of director Kate Herron and her team make this episode that much more engaging and you’re completely sucked into the story that is being told. As in his relationship with Sylvie, we also get to see Loki’s interactions with other sides of himself and the new presence of Kid Loki and Classic Loki, sure keep our Loki on his toes. As Classic Loki Richard E, Grant brings a sage-like presence to his character, whose magic also happens to be incredibly potent, while Kid Loki is an incredibly powerful presence and formidable opponent being that he is the only Loki to have ever killed Thor! All these Loki’s keep this episode on a tight rope and it was a lot of fun to see this level of creativity brought to the screen.

Not content to let Loki rot, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), decides to get to the bottom of the mess of the TVA and after interrogating Renslayer, she heads into The Void to rescue Loki and to confront the real puppet master who is behind all of this. ‘Journey into Mystery’ is very much a seminal moment for the characters of Sylvie and Loki, as we see their further attraction to one another brought to the forefront. Whether it be romantic interest or something more, we cannot fully tell, as they do happen to be two sides of the same god, but it is very clear that these two characters need each other and that their destinies, now more than ever, are intertwined.

Also in a very fun surprise, we also see the return of Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius, who in a shocking revelation was pruned in ‘The Nexus Event’ and now again appears in ‘Journey into Mystery’, and he is of great moral support to Loki and Sylvie in their time of need. While we still have one episode to go in Loki, and it’s still uncertain as to how Mobius will play into the coming events of Loki it is clear that his presence is of great importance to Loki, and that he is truly the only person to have ever fully gotten through to him.

Audiences looking for action will be well rewarded with ‘Journey into Mystery’ and this is one episode of television that delivers MASSIVE thrills. The Void is a place of absolute danger and it takes all of Loki’s ingenuity and mischievousness to survive it. With rapid raiding Loki’s, unhinged alligators and one hell of a battle between Loki, Sylvie, Classic Loki and the monstrous Alioth, the events of ‘Journey into Mystery’ are delivered with pace and enthusiasm and audiences will love the imagery and narrative that they get to witness on screen.

We’re in the final chapter of Loki’s story now and the events of ‘Journey into Mystery’ have set the scene for an explosive final episode to come. It’s about to get exciting, so buckle in for what comes next.

Episode by episode the tension has been mounting in Loki, and now in Episode 4 ‘The Nexus Event’, this tension absolutely snaps and the result is a thrilling and intense 49 minutes of television that will have you on the edge of your seat.

At the hour of their destruction on Lamentis-1, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), are re-captured by the TVA and brought in for questioning. And it’s here that uncomfortable truths are brought to the surface, and the orderliness of the TVA soon descends into chaos with Loki and Sylvie right at the front of it. With their backs against the wall, and swords out in front they make their way to their ultimate objective: a head-on meeting with the mysterious Time Keepers.

We’ve been building to this moment for some time in Loki, the moment when Loki comes face to face with the mysterious Time Keepers, and Episode 4 ‘The Nexus Event’ does not disappoint. Drawing on equal parts character exploration, and sword frenzy wielding action, ‘The Nexus Event’ is one hell of a fun moment of television action, and long time MCU fans will be very happy with the results that director Kate Herron brings to the screen. Herron gives a duel focus to the episode by splitting up Loki and Sylvie and devoting time to each character and their respective backstories. And this leads to some very interesting narrative revelations.

This unique framing of ‘The Nexus Event’ allows us to focus more into the characters of Loki and Sylvie, who are equally two sides of the same god. With Sylvie, we learn about her childhood, which because of the TVA was made tremendously hard and traumatic and resulted in this absolute survivor of a character. While Loki comes face to face with his past thanks to Mobius (Owen Wilson), in the form of Lady Sif which sees the return of the delightful Jaimie Alexander. Sif of course has plenty of hate for Loki, and it’s hilarious to watch this ‘reunion between these two characters. And did we mention that Mobius confirms the presence of vampires within the MCU! Yep, there’s a lot to be excited about thanks to this episode.

Herron also throws a spanner into the works thanks to the presence of Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Judge Ravonna Renslayer, who so far has been at the head of the TVA’s orderliness and who has plenty of her own secrets that she’s keeping from her staff. While cryptically Renslayer’s motivations are looked into, the mystery and suspense, driven by her presence and actions in this episode are sure to keep audiences off guard. And Mbatha-Raw gives Renslayer a presence of authority and superiority that marks her out as a dangerous enemy to have.

The action of Loki has been building slowly over the series, and after the kinetic and chaotic chase scene in ‘Lamentis’ we finally get to see Loki and Sylvie go to work against the agents of the TVA. And it makes for an epic showdown. With swords at the ready, Loki and Sylvie go for it, and the fight scenes in ‘The Nexus Event’ are freaking awesome to watch. We’ve never really gotten to see Hiddleston show his stuff in regards to combat as Loki, but here he showcases a balletic-matador style grace with his combat, while Di Martino’s Sylvie is more of an in-your-face brawler type. Fans looking for action will be impressed and I hope we see more of it down the line.

But ‘The Nexus Event’s’ climactic event results from Loki and Sylvie’s showdown with the mysterious Time Keepers….and it’s a showstopping moment. This final act of this episode is sure to take your breath away, and I was shocked in multiple moments, and in disbelief at what I was seeing. If you thought the infamous Red Wedding was shocking, wait until you see this, because I sure as hell did not expect Loki to go here, and that’s exactly where it goes. Herron keeps the stakes high this time, and is proving that when you think you know where this series is going, well, you’d better watch out.

Loki Episode 4 ‘The Nexus Event’ took it to a whole new level for the MCU and Disney+, and the result is an engaging, contemplative and ultimately shocking chapter of the MCU that is sure to have major consequences for our favourite god of mischief going forward.

Another episode of Loki means another opportunity for more mischief and after the shocking twist ending of Episode Two, ‘The Variant’, where it was revealed that Loki was actually pursuing a female variant version of himself, things heat up fast as these two sides of the same god plot to upend the TVA.

Following in the wake of his variant self, a female Loki (Sophia Di Martino), Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the Variant, who calls herself Sylvie, find themselves trapped on the alien world of Lamentis-1, a doomed planet that is only hours away from cataclysmic destruction. And it’s here where things get interesting as these ‘two Loki’s’ are forced into an uneasy alliance, and new secrets about both Loki…and the TVA are drawn out.

Episode by episode the intrigue of Loki builds, and following the shock twist ending of Episode Two ‘The Variant’ where it was revealed that Loki’s target was in fact a female version of himself, Episode Three ‘Lamentis’ throws the pair of them together and the sparks get explosive. These two opposite sides of the same god sure are a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with, and their back and forth bickering and would-be manipulation of each other leads to a gripping dramatic piece of television that keeps you hooked the whole way through. Throw in the presence of a thoroughly alien planet that is facing imminent destruction and you have set the stage for drama.

While Tom Hiddleston teases out more of his usual Loki quirks, and new unseen talents rise to the surface, it’s MCU newcomer Sophia Di Martino who steals the show. As Sylvie, Di Martino is a powerful enchantress who is on a mission to blow up the TVA and when she runs into Loki, her plans take a dramatic side-step. In terms of character, Hiddleston best describes the make-up of a Loki as ‘independence, authority and style’, and Sylvie possesses all of these. Plus she’s got a particularly sharp mean streak about her, and isn’t about to put up with any of Loki’s tricks. With a smart mind, and her own magic at her control, Sylvie is a character who is definitely going to spin the MCU for a loop.

Part of the fun of Sylvie’s presence in Loki is that she is able to get our protagonist to reflect on who he is. And this allows audiences to get even more of an insight into who Loki is as a character. While neither of these characters trust each other, Sylvie’s questioning with Loki allows us to learn more about his relationship with his adoptive mother Frigga (Rene Russo), alongside his princely life, and his hedonistic pursuits, he once led and leads into some very memorable scenes throughout the episode. Included is a very cool scene, where Loki, drunk out of his mind, starts singing in Old Norse. A moment that is particularly fun to watch.

As the new wild card of the series, Sylvie also gives audiences a brand new insight into the Time Variance Authority….and any suspicions that we might have held about them are revealed further here. Key insights into the TVA from Sylvie include that she considers them to be a group of ‘omniscient fascists’ and that their ranks are made up by a very interesting group of recruits. It’s a hell of a shock for audiences when this information is revealed and I can only see things getting crazier from here.

Director Kate Herron does a remarkable job of bringing to life the science-fiction world of Lamentis-1 and loyal sci-fans will be pleased with the atmosphere that she creates. On this barren planet that faces extinction from above, Loki and Sylvie journey across it to find a key resource. And time is of the essence. Herron commands not only the interpersonal dialogue of the episode, but the action as well, and Loki and Sylvie go to town with blades in hand, and there are some wicked action set pieces to get you pumped. ‘Lamentis’s’ third act is utterly impressive to behold and this episode finishes with one hell of a showstopping moment.

Double trouble always leads to more fun, and there’s a lot to be excited about thanks to the third episode of Loki, and it’s anyone’s guess as to where we go from here.

The god of mischief is back and he’s got plenty more tricks up his sleeve, and as we move forward into an exciting new chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe new truths come to life, and Episode Two of Loki, ‘The Variant’ makes for a very interesting new chapter in this rogue gods story.

With nowhere left to turn, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the God of Mischief is sworn in as an agent of the Time Variance Authority and is tasked with hunting down a rogue variant who is drastically altering the sacred timeline. This variant also just happens to be another version of the mischevious Loki, and now Loki must do everything he can to stop this variant version of himself….or so he’s leading the TVA to think that he will.

It’s great to see Tom Hiddleston back in action as Loki, and he undergoes some serious growth in this second episode as he is now officially sworn in as an agent of the TVA. Proving himself to be a quick study of the TVA’s rules, Loki soon takes every chance he can to push against them, which leads to plenty of interesting turns in this second episode. But while he does play up his tricks, Loki also slams headfirst into the dull, unending bureaucracy of the TVA and there’s plenty of dry humour that results from this mercurial character being forced into line by the drudgery of box-ticking culture.

‘The Variant’ also gives us a larger look into the motivations of Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius, a dedicated company man of the TVA who has been tasked to investigate this rogue Loki that is running amuck within the sacred timeline. Playing him as a bit of working stiff, who has to contend with the ultimate irritable partner, leads us to the start of a very interesting on-screen relationship between these two polar opposite characters, and Wilson and Hiddleston have that perfectly working chemistry that keeps things interesting. Wilson’s Mobius is obviously a character who has a lot of layers to him, and I’m certain we’re going to see a lot more of his own personal motivations coming to the surface with successive episodes.

Long time fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will also be very pleased with the science-fiction that is on offer in this second episode of Loki, and there’s plenty of time-hopping going on here. These differing time periods and Hiddleston’s interaction with them lead to a variety of emotional performances that lean into both the comical and the serious and the episode’s third act sets the stage for a major revelation that I certainly did not see coming. Loki’s magic also comes into play here and the resulting action scenes courtesy of this display of magical power certainly make things wild, and you literally can’t see the punches coming.

‘The Varient’ lays the groundwork for plenty of interesting twists to come and the episode’s ending definitely took me by surprise. It’s anyone’s guess as to where this new revelation will take us, but I’m well excited for what comes next in a rapidly changing MCU.
