In 2024, Prime Video detonated expectations when superstar producer Jonathan Nolan and creators
Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet brought the beloved, bombed-out fantasyland of Fallout to life — and it landed with a radioactive bang. What could have been a shallow video-game cash-in instead emerged as one of the year’s most thrilling, confident pieces of streaming television. Anchored by sharp writing, fearless world-building, and three compelling lost souls colliding at the end of the world, Fallout treated its legendary source material with reverence while boldly carving out its own identity. The result? A series packed with savage twists, wicked humour, and a jaw-dropping finale that left audiences stunned and hungry for more.

Now, after a lengthy and much-anticipated wait, Fallout returns, and Season Two doesn’t just step back into the Wasteland. It storms in, guns blazing, expanding the scope, deepening the conspiracy, and delivering one of the most exciting genre returns of the year.

Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. Two-hundred years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.

Season Two picks up directly after the shocking revelations of the Season One finale. Vault-raised optimist Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) has had her worldview violently shattered. No longer the wide-eyed, can-do vault dweller, Lucy now understands the horrifying truth about her father, former Vault 33 overseer Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan), and the manipulative evil lurking beneath his polished smile. Fueled by rage and a burning need for justice, Lucy sets out into the Wasteland with a new purpose, and an uneasy ally.

That ally, of course, is the ever-dangerous, ever-entertaining Ghoul (Walton Goggins). Bound together by circumstance and a shared bounty, the pair carve a bloody, chaotic path across the irradiated wastes, their journey pulling them toward one of the most mythic locations in Fallout lore: the ruins of Las Vegas. Their partnership is volatile, sharp, and endlessly watchable: a clash of morality, trauma, and survival instincts that forms the emotional backbone of the season.

Running parallel is Maximus (Aaron Moten), whose trajectory takes him deeper into the iron grip of the Brotherhood of Steel. Now elevated to the rank of Knight, Maximus finds himself wielding real authority, and uncovering a secret discovery capable of granting his order unimaginable power. But power in the Wasteland is never clean, and as Brotherhood politics tighten their grip, Maximus is forced to confront uncomfortable truths about loyalty, ambition, and the cost of obedience.

And just when you think you have the pieces lined up, our creators pull the rug out, again. Season Two thrives on narrative ambushes, peeling back further layers of a still-unfolding conspiracy that reaches all the way back to the very origins of the apocalypse itself. Nothing is sacred, no alliance is stable, and every revelation hits with precision.

If Season One established Fallout’s world, Season Two lets it explode outward. Nolan, Wagner and Robertson-Dworet lean fully into the franchise’s massive sandbox, gleefully unleashing new factions, locations, technologies, and monstrous horrors upon the narrative. From twisted settlements to lawless badlands, the Wasteland has never felt more alive, or more dangerous.

This season embraces the full insanity of Fallout’s imagination: brutal new enemies, outrageous weaponry, grotesque creatures, and the darkest expressions of humanity’s ingenuity. Every episode feels tactile and tangible, with production design and visual spectacle ramped up to blockbuster levels. The series looks phenomenal, balancing retro-futuristic decay with jaw-dropping scale, and it never loses sight of the small, brutal human moments buried beneath the chaos.

Season Two is defined by evolution — and nowhere is that more apparent than in its characters.

Ella Purnell continues to shine as Lucy MacLean, who now walks a razor’s edge between hope and fury. She may still carry echoes of her Doris Day-esque optimism, but it’s sharpened by awareness and pain. Lucy’s mission to bring her father to justice gives her a fierce new edge, and her verbal sparring with Goggins’ Ghoul provides some of the season’s most entertaining moments. This is Lucy’s transformation arc, and Purnell handles it beautifully.

Aaron Moten’s Maximus grows significantly this season, both in stature and complexity. His rise within the Brotherhood exposes him to the brutal realities of power and political maneuvering, forcing him to question the very ideals he once clung to. Moten plays the internal conflict with depth and restraint, making Maximus’ journey one of the most compelling moral threads in the series.

Then there’s Walton Goggins; once again delivering a masterclass performance. Juggling the dual roles of the scarred, cynical Ghoul and pre-war Hollywood star Cooper Howard, Goggins sits at the emotional center of the series. His storyline digs deeper into responsibility, consequence, and regret, revealing the human cost of survival in a world gone mad. It’s a rich, layered performance, and arguably one of the finest of his career.

Without straying into spoiler territory, one of Season Two’s most electric additions comes in the casting of Justin Theroux as the infamous Robert Edwin House. A Howard Hughes-style visionary teetering on the edge of madness, House looms large over the narrative as a master architect of the apocalypse’s legacy. Theroux devours the role, delivering elevated, moustache-twirling villainy with style and menace. This is a character destined to reshape the series — and we’re only just seeing the beginning of the chaos he’s set to unleash.

Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, along with Jonathan Nolan once again proves their mastery of Fallout’s tonal tightrope. Season Two doesn’t just match its predecessor, it elevates it. Horror, comedy, sci-fi madness, and explosive action collide in a gloriously unhinged cocktail. One moment you’re recoiling in terror, the next you’re laughing out loud at a savage clapback, before everything erupts in fire and fury. This is Fallout firing on all cylinders — bold, bizarre, brutal, and wildly entertaining.

The apocalypse wasn’t the end of the world, it was the beginning of Fallout. Season Two is a combustible carnival of chaos and creativity, delivering bigger stakes, deeper characters, and even more audacious storytelling. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the games or a newcomer discovering the madness for the first time, this is must-watch television.

So raid the fridge, stock up on snacks, and buckle in. The Wasteland is calling, and Season Two of Fallout is one hell of a ride.

For streaming series that deliver on a massive scale, being fearless in pushing the envelope, Prime Video is the place to be. And one of 2023’s most anticipated series, Fallout, has now arrived on the platform. It brings wild and crazy new sci-fi energy to the screen as the classic video game series gets the adaptation treatment, and you’ll be utterly amazed at what awaits in a world gone to hell.

Fallout depicts the aftermath of an apocalyptic nuclear exchange in an alternate history of Earth where advances in nuclear technology after WWII led to the emergence of a retrofuturistic society and a subsequent resource war. The survivors took refuge in fallout bunkers known as Vaults, built to preserve humanity in the event of nuclear annihilation. 219 years later, a young woman leaves behind her home in Vault 33 to venture out into the dangerously brutal, hostile, savage and unforgiving Wasteland of a devastated Los Angeles.

Shepherding this adaptation are showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, who, in association with Jonathan Nolan, the younger brother of Christopher Nolan and a celebrated creative, the trio goes to town with Fallout. And the results are just WHOA! Nolan, Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner have a deft ability to handle complex and layered narratives that swirl together multiple stories, sub-plots and characters, all while keeping the audience guessing, and that’s exactly the level of focus of Fallout. Nolan turned the volume up on the science-fiction genre with his work on Westworld, and here in Fallout, he brings the same level of focus and commitment to building out a massively diverse and outrageous science-fiction world while also moving deeply into the forces that make his lead characters tick. The trio throws a lot at their audiences in these first few episodes, and he promises to deliver something awe-inspiring, packed out with twists and turns and convolutions that will only grow as we move further into the series’ events.

The idea of perspective is key to the story of Fallout, and three distinctive personalities are at the heart of this series. Lined up as the series’ central character is Ella Purnell as the chirpy, happy-go-lucky, awe-shucks Lucy MacLean, a young vault dweller from Vault 33, who has lived a sheltered existence away from the radiated surface of a world gone to hell, but who must embark into a strange new world she could never have comprehended. Purnell’s performance in these first few episodes is utterly priceless, and she is someone who ‘stands out’ in this world gone nuclear. Purnell’s reactions and quick wit are very fun to watch, and her naivety in this wasteland leads to plenty of funny moments in these first few episodes, but at the core is the idea of change and growth with her character, and she’s about to go through a lot of it with this series.

Providing a different perspective and backup in the series is young newcomer Aaron Moten as Maximus, a squire of the Brotherhood of Steel. He’s a young man desperate to prove himself through somewhat duplicitous actions, and he soon learns that appearances and legacies aren’t always as they appear to be. And then there’s Walton Goggins, the always utter scene-stealing performer who brings it with his dual performance as The Ghoul/Cooper Howard. This multi-layered role both sees Goggins as a bloodthirsty mutant bounty hunter who literally takes no prisoners and Cooper Howard, a Gene Autry-style cowboy actor and WWII veteran living in an atomic-future 1950s who is a witness to the events that led to the horrors at the heart of this series. There’s plenty of genre and scenery for Goggins to play with in Fallout. And boy, does he.

The experience of Fallout is just a straight-up epic experience, and its scope and magnitude are massive. This series exists entirely in its own universe, and it is utterly wild and unbelievable in equal measure. The production value on display is off-the-chain. Prime Video has spared no expense in realising the world and potential of Fallout to its fullest, and it promises a new vision of the post-apocalyptic genre that will leave your eyes wide open with excitement.

Audiences who already share a familiarity with Prime Video’s flagship series, The Boys, will be well up for this new series, and Fallout is almost a ‘kindred spirit’ to Prime’s other cult series. And while the Fallout series has a 25-year history that it is bringing to the table in this new adaptation, both gaming veterans and those who are brand new to its nuked world will easily adapt to it and look upon its story in wonder. Fallout also delivers a wicked balance between a gore-fest of excessively bloody violence and a hilarious, and at times, over-the-top and inappropriate humour that only adds to the fun on display. Through all of it, narrative, scenery, texture, comedy and over-the-top action, audiences are given a unique mix of genre and style, and all of it just screams YES in the biggest voice possible.

We’re only at the start of Fallout, but this is far and away one of the most exciting debuts of the entire year. A deadly and dangerous conspiracy, from both the past and present, lies at the heart of the series, and a whole bunch of murder and mayhem is sure to follow it. The end of the world isn’t what it used to be, and Fallout will be your rollercoaster ride through it.

Lara Croft is back and she’s jumping headfirst into the action thanks to an impressive turn by Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander in the new action blockbuster Tomb Raider.

Finding a hidden message from her adventurer father Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West), intrepid university student Lara Croft leaves London and travels to the far east in search of adventure. But what she finds is a sinister conspiracy that could end the world, and soon Lara is forced into a breakneck chase for survival as she works to outwit and outrun a dangerous adversary.

When reviewing Tomb Raider the action begins with Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. The award-winning actresses takes on the beloved character and does something different with her. Vikander’s performance is not in keeping with Angelina Jolie’s hyper-sexualized performance from the early 2000s but is more in keeping with the game’s new emphasis. Her Lara is a troubled young woman who has scorned her past life and any chance of a future and is more of a reprobate than an actual legend when we first meet her. And like every hero she must go on a journey that will push her to both her mental and physical limits as she fights for what’s right.

While I myself am not overly familiar with the Lara Croft gaming franchise I enjoyed what Vikander did with the character. Vikander gives an incredibly physical performance and she underwent intense training to perform the rigorous stunts that she gets involved in. She’s absolutely shredded and I could completely buy her athleticism that she used to overpower her adversaries along with her analytical mind. What’s more, I was completely in love with her never quit attitude, and in this film, Lara definitely gets put through the ringer, making this all the more important.

I also have to give a shout out to director Roar Uthaug who really brought something different to the film’s big-budget action set pieces. I’ve watched a lot of action film’s but these sequences really spoke to me as he used them to propel the narrative forward. Every action set-piece had a narrative piece to it which built off of one another, with one action propelling the next one forward. This was particularly evident in the ‘shipwreck’ scene and the ‘B-52 Bomber wreck’ scene. Vikander was always met by furthering obstacles during these events and I was particularly impressed with how they were set up. In a cinema landscape where car chases and CGI explosions dominate, seeing intelligence, logic and problem solving placed into such a high octane action film.

Every heroine also needs her villain and Vikander’s Croft finds hers in Walton Goggins Mathias Vogel. I’ve been a long time fan of Goggins ever since he first appeared in The Shield back in 2002 and he’s a performer who has continued to go onto bigger and better things such as working with Quentin Tarantino on two of the director’s biggest works ever, Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. But for Tomb Raider Goggins goes full villain and his is without any kind of emotion or heart. Vogel is a real matter of fact kind of villain who is only concerned with accomplishing his mission and his complete lack of empathy also makes for a great reflection to Lara’s heroic never quit attitude. It was great to see these two performers spar with another and their animosity towards each other keeps things interesting.

I really had a blast watching Tomb Raider and I liked the edginess and break-neck speed that Vikander has brought to the property. It was clever, kinetic and action-packed and I really felt my adrenal gland kick in with this action hit. If you too want to exhaust your adrenal gland then I definitely advise that you see Tomb Raider immediately.

Master filmmaker Quentin Tarantino returns to the harsh landscape of the western frontier for this brutally gripping film that places eight of the nastiest villains, anti-heroes and rogues together in one place, and lets them battle it out in a fierce game of wits.

Set 8, 10 or 12 years after the Civil War, The Hateful Eight finds bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and fugitive Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) on their way to the town of Red Rock where Daisy is to be hanged. On their way, they encounter union soldier turned bounty hunter Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) and the roguish Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), who claims to be the new sheriff of Red Rock. Stopping off at Minnie’s Haberdashery, they encounter five other men including Bob (Demian Bichir), hangman Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), the mysterious Joe Gage (Michael Madsen), and former Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Bruce Dern). But it soon becomes clear that nothing is as it seems, and one or more of these men is not who he says he is.

From the film’s opening frame, Tarantino’s lightning fast dialogue grips your ears, and the full expression of his talent as a wordsmith is brought to light here. With dialogue and conversation leading the film, The Hateful Eight has the tempo of a play which is constantly changing and evolving as the film pushes forward.

Tarantino has the best of the best on hand here, and all of his performers give their all to this wide range of villains. Make no mistake…there are no heroes here. Standouts include Samuel L. Jackson’s portrayal as the charismatic Marquis Warren, Tim Roth’s eccentrically debonair Oswaldo Mobray, and the dual performance of Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh as odd couple John Ruth and Daisy Domergue. As Domergue, Leigh offers a particularly captivating performance, and her twisted character will no doubt go down in film history.

It wouldn’t be a Tarantino film without lashings of blood and plenty of profanity, and The Hateful Eight has these trademark features in spades. Driving the narrative forward, these effects are at one with the savage world that the characters inhabit. The Hateful Eight might be placed as a western in terms of genre, but there’s definitely a good helping of horror in terms of tone within the film, especially Italian Giallo cinema, which Tarantino has long drawn from in his list of credits. Of particular note is the spectacular score by the legendary Ennio Morricone, who has delivered an evocative score that captures the heightened cabin fever of the haberdashery, and the mad souls trapped inside.

The Hateful Eight is another glorious addition to the Tarantino collection, brought to audiences by a filmmaker who never fails to entertain.
